A massive fire broke out at the Tata Electronics Limited (TEL) facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, on Saturday, causing significant disruption in its operations. The facility plays a crucial role in assembling components for Apple’s iPhone and the fire outbreak led to operational setbacks even as fire-fighting teams worked to control the blaze. However, it is still not clear which production unit of the facility has caught fire.

Around 1,500 workers were on duty during the first shift at the time of the incident.

All employees were evacuated safely, and no casualties or injuries were reported. According to eyewitnesses, the fire started early in the morning, causing panic among the workforce. The company’s emergency response teams quickly intervened, ensuring the safety of its employees.

Firefighters from nearby areas were also deployed to contain the fire. While the flames were eventually brought under control, the incident severely affected the production line.

However, four workers in the unit suffered breathing difficulties during the fire outbreak. They have been admitted to Hosur Cauvery Government Hospital for medical treatment.

The Tata Electronics unit in Hosur is a key supplier for Apple, particularly the precision components for the iPhone.

It remains unclear how long production will be halted, but TEL is working to restore normal operations as soon as possible. In a statement, Tata Electronics said, “We can confirm that a fire incident occurred at our Hosur facility. All employees were safely evacuated, and we are working closely with local authorities to assess the damage and ensure that safety protocols are followed rigorously. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.”

The Hosur facility is an integral part of Tata Group’s expansion in the electronics manufacturing sector, particularly in collaboration with global tech companies like Apple.

Tata Electronics is expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, aiming to prevent future occurrences. The Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services (TNFRS) deployed several teams to the site to contain the fire and assess the damage. While the exact extent of the damage has not yet been determined, sources indicate that a significant portion of the facility’s production infrastructure may have been affected.

Local authorities have also launched their own probe to determine the cause of the fire and whether any safety regulations were breached.
