Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay an early morning visit to the Indian Space Research Organization’s Telemetry, Tracking and Command Centre in the Peenya industrial area of Bengaluru on Saturday to congratulate ISRO scientists on the successful descent of the lander of the Chandrayaan-3 on the surface of the Moon on August 23.

The Bengaluru traffic police have imposed restrictions in north Bengaluru on roads leading to the ISRO facility and in east and central parts of the city on roads leading from the HAL airport to north Bengaluru from 6.30 am to 9.30 am.

“Warm welcome to PM Modi as he arrives in Bengaluru to congratulate ISRO scientists for the successful Chandrayaan-3 mission,” former Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai said on social media on Friday.

Police officials said the PM is expected to reach ISTRAC by 7.30 am to interact with scientists and get first hand views on the mission – including images that have been transmitted from the lander and possible visuals of the ISRO rover’s movement on the surface of the moon.

“All planned Rover movements have been verified. The Rover has successfully traversed a distance of about 8 meters. Rover payloads LIBS and APXS are turned ON. All payloads on the propulsion module, lander module, and rover are performing nominally,” ISRO in an update on Friday said.

The first images from the rover — of the terrain near the south pole of the Moon — are expected to be available Saturday. The ISRO is yet to release images conveyed from the rover to the lander after the rollout of the rover around midnight following the landing on the moon at 18.03 hours IST on August 23.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was in Bengaluru in September 2019 when the Chandrayaan-2 landing failed, was in Johannesburg for the BRICS summit when the Chandrayaan-3 landing occurred. He joined the ISRO team via video conferencing to witness the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3. He spoke to ISRO scientists and congratulated them for the historic achievement via video conference.
