‘Sorry brother’: BJP MP pays Rs 35k to vendor after party workers mob him, take away drinks at Amit Shah’s Karnataka rally
The incident took place in Lakshmeshwar, Shirahatti as Sameer Hasan, 22, whose family sells water bottles and soft drinks, was responding to a request to supply water at the event.

Days after BJP workers in Karnataka, who had come to attend Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s rally in Gadag district Friday, took away water bottles and soft drinks from a young man who was transporting it to the venue, Mysuru-Kodagu BJP MP Pratap Simha compensated him for the loss incurred. Visuals of the youth in tears had gone viral soon after, drawing criticism.
The incident took place in Lakshmeshwar, Shirahatti as Sameer Hasan, 22, whose family sells water bottles, soft drinks and ice-cream, was responding to a request to supply water at the event.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Sameer said, “As usual, I was transporting soft drinks and water to the shops and I received a phone call to deliver water packets where the Amit Shah rally was being held. As it was an emergency, I went with water packets, but the people who were attending the programme thought that the soft drinks and other materials in the vehicle were for free and took almost everything I had bought. It was meant to be delivered to others.”
On Sunday, MP Pratap Simha called Sameer, enquired about the situation and transferred Rs 35,000 to him, the youth said. In a tweet later in the day, the MP posted, “Have sent money to Sameer Hasan Sab. Sorry brother. Thanks.”

“After the incident, the local Congress youth wing had given me Rs 20,000 and I told him about it. But he said that the mistake was from our (party’s) end and paid me Rs 35,000,” Sameer explained.
The youth said he was really disappointed that while the MP showed his concern, local BJP leaders did not even bother to enquire about the incident.
