Officials in these districts have been asked to intensify the fever surveillance, as per the surveillance guidelines issued by the state government in border districts.
Meanwhile, as the state gears up to celebrate Ganesha Chaturthi, the Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) Friday night passed an order allowing various Hindu organisations to conduct celebrations at the communally sensitive Idgah Maidan in Hubballi from 8 am on September 19 till September 21 noon, officials said. However, it has laid down 18 conditions to be mandatorily followed by the organisers on the three days.
In other news, BJP leader and former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the party will undertake a ‘Cauvery Rakshana Yatra’ in the taluks on the river basin, to protest against the Karnataka government’s release of water to neighbouring Tamil Nadu. After a party meeting with BS Yediyurappa, Bommai said the next course of action will be decided after September 21 as the case hearing is scheduled on the day, as per PTI.


BJP MLA from Mangaluru City South D Vedavyasa Kamath has urged the state government to strengthen security measures at prominent religious sites in Karnataka.
With the recent arrest of a person named Arafath Ali by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), it has been revealed that the accused in the 2022 cooker bomb blast case Mohamed Shariq had targeted the Kadri Sri Manjunatha Temple here while carrying an IED which exploded in an auto rickshaw, Kamath said in a statement on Sunday. On the occassion of the Kalyan Karnataka Utsav 2023, CM Siddaramaiah today tweeted: 'The development of this region was slow due to the complete neglect of Kalyan Karnataka by the previous BJP government which was mired in corruption and communalism. Kalyan Karnataka is progressing at par with other districts of the state as our government has taken steps to implement many new programs and complete old projects in a short span of time.'
Kundalahalli Lake, spread to an extent of 30.5 acres, was a dumpyard of untreated sewage. After its restoration six years ago, the lake, surrounded by over 3,000 trees, has now become home to several bird and fish species.
The lake’s restoration project, through public-private partnership, won a national award by the Union Ministry of Water Resources in 2019. A sewage treatment plant was set up near the lake in 2016 so that the lake receives treated water.
Yet, all is not fine with the water body. Recently, the lake has witnessed two instances of fish kill – in June and September.

The Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) on Friday night passed an order allowing various Hindu organisations to conduct Ganesha Chaturthi celebrations at the communally sensitive Idgah Maidan in Hubballi from 8 am on September 19 till September 21 noon, officials said.
However, the corporation has laid down 18 conditions to be mandatorily followed by the organisers on the three days of celebrations. The corporation also directed the organisers to wrap the immersion of the Ganesha idols by September 21 (Thursday) noon.
Though the state government on Friday (September 15) issued a formal order banning the use and sale of Ganesha idols made of plaster of Paris (PoP) and chemical colours, the vendors continue to sell the small idols made of PoP.
Vendors say that despite the ban the customers find PoP idols attractive.

The Dharwad Bench of the Karnataka High Court has observed in a recent order that trivialities between a married couple leading to criminal proceedings would be an abuse of the process of law.
The order was passed on September 5 by a single-judge bench of Justice M Nagaprasanna based on a petition by the husband.

The truth behind the MLA ticket cheating case involving Hindutva activist Chaitra Kundapura should be unravelled through a comprehensive investigation, former BJP national general secretary C T Ravi said on Saturday.
Addressing reporters here, Ravi said the police should conduct a transparent probe and find out the truth. There is no system in BJP for providing party tickets in elections by taking money.
"There are people who get fooled, there are people who fool them," he said.

The Karnataka government has cleared 91 industrial investment proposals worth Rs 7,659.52 crore with a potential to generate 18,146 jobs.
The State Level Single Window Clearance Committee (SLSWCC) headed by Minister for Large and Medium Industries, and Infrastructure Development M B Patil met on Friday and approved 26 projects involving more than Rs 50 crore investment, totaling Rs 5,750.73 crore. These hold the potential to create 13,742 jobs.
Of the total 91 proposals, about 57 investment projects are between Rs 15 crore to Rs 50 crore totaling Rs 1,144.94 crore, promising employment generation potential of 4,404 within Karnataka.
The Anti Narcotics Wing of the Central Crime Branch of Bengaluru Police on Saturday said they have arrested 14 drug peddlers including foreign nationals and those from other states, and have seized banned narcotics substances worth over Rs 7.83 crore.
The Anti Narcotics Wing officials and staff in the last one week had booked seven cases following swift action in various police station limits of the city like -- Vartur, Banashankari, Vidyaranyapura, Cottonpet and Kadugodi.
In these cases, a total of 14 drug peddlers have been arrested, which includes three foreign nationals, four each from Orissa and Kerala, and three from Bengaluru, police said.
An estimated Rs 7,83,70,000 worth banned narcotics substances have been seized from them including -- 182 kg ganja, 1.450 kg hashish oil, 16.2 gram MDMA crystals, 135 Ecstasy pills, 1 kg Mephedrone white powder, 870 grams Mephedrone crystals, 80 gram Cocaine, 230 gram MDMA Ecstasy powder. (PTI)
The Karnataka HC has directed the BBMP to clear all encroachments made over the storm water days within the next 10 days. The BBMP has invited the general public to help out with identifying the encroachments over the primary and secondary storm water drains.
It was about 8 pm, on February 19, 2000. Karwar Congress MLA Vasant Asnotikar was busy with the last-minute preparations for the wedding reception of his eldest daughter. While he was standing near the gate of the convention hall, two people came on two-wheelers and shot Asnotikar dead. The police found underworld links to the murder and had to seek the help of an underworld don to arrest the MLA’s killers.
Who was Vasant Asnotikar?
Vasant Asnotikar hailed from a rich family in Karnataka’s coastal region. In 1994, for the first time, he ran as the Congress candidate for the Karwar Assembly segment and won. He was also president of the port labour union of Karwar and was considered to be a powerful leader of the region. In 1999, just a year before his death, he contested the polls again and managed to register a whopping margin of about 45,000 votes. But little did he know that his leadership of the labour union was putting his life at risk.
The murder
A year after his victory in the Assembly elections, on February 13, 2000, his eldest daughter got married in Mumbai. Later a reception was to be held in Karwar, for which he personally monitored all the preparations. Read more
The Bengaluru civic body has banned sale of meat in shops under it’s administrative limit till September 18 in view of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. The corporation has ordered not to organise any cultural events, install flags, display provocative banners or flexes that can disturb peace. The immersion of the Ganesh idol should be completed by September 21, 12 pm, the order stated.
A special NIA court has convicted a woman in the Bengaluru fake currency case involving smuggling of huge quantities of high-quality counterfeit banknotes from Bangladesh into India via Karnataka. Vanitha alias 'Thangam' is the sixth accused to be convicted in the case.
She was sentenced to six years of imprisonment under Section 489B (using as genuine counterfeit currency notes) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), five years of imprisonment under Section 489C (possession of counterfeit currency notes) of the IPC, and two years of imprisonment under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. All the sentences will run concurrently, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) said on Saturday.The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on Vanitha.
In a joint operation with the NIA in 2018, the Karnataka Police had seized fake currency with a face value of Rs 2.50 lakh from Vanitha following the arrest of three other accused with counterfeit currency notes with a face value of Rs 4.34 lakh.The case was initially registered by the Karnataka Police under various sections of the IPC based on the complaint lodged by an NIA officer in 2018, the agency said.
Subsequently, the NIA re-registered the case and mounted a thorough investigation and surveillance that led to the exposure of the fake Indian currency notes (FICN) racket headed by prime accused Abdul Khadir, it said. Further investigations by the NIA indicated a potential transaction of fake notes by three people in Bengaluru, according to the agency.
Between 2018 and 2022, the NIA filed charge sheets against eight people.
Three of these -- Mohammed Sajjad Ali alias 'Chachu', M G Raju alias 'Master' and Abdul Kadir -- were convicted by the special court to six years of imprisonment. Two other accused, Gangadhar Kholkar and Sabiruddin, were also subsequently convicted and sentenced by the special court to six years of imprisonment, the NIA said. PTI
