Four police teams formed to find 21-year-old who attacked five people in Bengaluru upscale locality on weekend

The Bengaluru knife attacker Kadamba and his associates are used to ambushing bikers on the streets late at night and robbing them, according to police sources.

The 21-year-old man accused of serial knife attacks in the upscale Indiranagar area has six cases of robbery and assault registered against him in east Bengaluru, according to police sources. Kadamba S has allegedly been involved in crimes since 2022, when he turned 18, with cases in Indiranagar and Ulsoor police limits. In all the cases, chargesheets have been filed and Kadamba was released either on bail or anticipatory bail.

Meanwhile, the Bengaluru police have formed four teams to nab the accused who went on a slashing spree on the intervening night of February 8 and 9. The Indiranagar police have filed five separate FIRs against Kadamba over these knife attacks which injured five people.

“We are making all efforts to find the accused. We are confident he will be found soon. The deputy commissioner of police (east) is supervising this investigation,” said Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayanand during a press conference Tuesday.

Police sources said Kadamba’s father Suresh was also a history-sheeter in east Bengaluru, while his elder brother Vishnu S has had six cases of robbery and assault against him in various police stations in Bengaluru from 2018. The police said the family lives in the Binnamangala slum near Byappanahalli in east Bengaluru.

The modus operandi in the robbery cases filed against Kadamba in the past is one where he and one or two of his associates ambush bikers on the streets late at night and rob them, as per the police. The several cases registered against Kadamba in east Bengaluru include a mobile phone robbery in 2024, a motorbike robbery in the same year, another motorbike theft in 2023, two separate assault cases, and a house burglary in 2022. Notably, several members of his family, including his mother, brother, and sister, are also accused in the house burglary case.

In the series of five slashings, Kadamba, allegedly in an inebriated condition, attacked two pani puri vendors, a security guard, a delivery agent and a 19-year-old man who refused to give him a ride after he forcibly sat on the scooter by brandishing a knife.

The victims were slashed either on their necks or hands in the knife attacks that began at around 9.30 pm on Saturday and culminated with the robbery of a scooter and a mobile phone from a delivery agent at around 2.30 am on Sunday.

The news of the slashings spread rapidly on Sunday and Monday among the resident welfare groups in Indiranagar, leading some to suggest the possibility of a serial killer.
