Water level nears danger mark

The water level in the Ukai dam has touched the danger mark while the outflow has been reduced to 15,940 cusecs

The water level in the dam crossed 339.96 feet on Thursday evening with the inflow of 31,831 cusecs of water discharged from upper catchment areas

The water level in the Ukai dam has touched the danger mark while the outflow has been reduced to 15,940 cusecs. The dam authorities,however,said there is no reason for worry and steps are being taken to maintain the water level.

The water level in the dam crossed 339.96 feet on Thursday evening with the inflow of 31,831 cusecs of water discharged from upper catchment areas. The dam authorities have fixed water level up to 340.31 feet,keeping in mind the danger level of 345 feet. Three hydro-power generation units have also been started in the dam.

The authorities are also keeping a watch on the water levels in the upper catchments areas in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.

Dam Superintendent Engineer N P Chauhan said,“We are discharging 50 per cent of the inflow to maintain proper level. We are in touch with the Met department. If the upper catchment areas receive heavy rainfall,we will discharge water from the dam.”
