Acting on complaints by Youth Congress members from Vadodara,senior Congress leaders have asked the city party unit to change the final three names of candidates from the Sayajigunj constituency and include a Youth Congress member.

Sources at the party headquarters in Ahmedabad told The Indian Express on Monday that some veteran Congress leaders,who were present during the shortlisting of the candidates,had removed the name of a YC member to accommodate their candidate. It was a systematic attempt to sideline the YC member and that too in front of the member himself. Some senior YC office-bearers were present there but they did not bother to raise their voice fearing backlash, said a Vadodara Congress leader.

The leader added that the ticket seeker was kept under the impression that his name would be included in the final list. On the first day of shortlisting candidates,three names were selected. The list remained the same on the second day and was handed over to senior officials as the final three names,added the leader.

When some YC members made a hue and cry about the irregularity,a Congress leader humiliated them by calling them ‘Rahul ni kitlio’ (Rahul Gandhi’s kettle).

A senior YC leader said the scene was same in other constituencies.

It is only because we have been categorically told by Rahul Gandhi not to disrespect senior Congress leaders and not to bypass the hierarchy of the party that we kept quiet. But when we realised that our seniors are playing with the career of our candidates,we decided to take up the issue with senior YC office-bearers, said the leader.
