Surat municipal commissioner’s term finally extended

The state Urban Development Ministry has sent a letter to the Surat Municipal Corporation extending the term of Surat Municipal Commissioner S Aparna till March 31,2011.

Aparna was appointed municipal commissioner on April 1,2007. Her term ended on March 31,2010,but the state government did not pass any written order for her transfer. Opposition leaders in the civic office,including Congress councillor Bhupendra Solanki and Independent councillor Prakash Desai,raised the issue in the last general body meeting on Thursday.

On Friday,the state Urban Development Ministry sent a letter to Surat Municipal Corporation saying that the extension period of municipal commissioner Aparna had been fixed till March 31,2011. The letter will be shown at the upcoming general body meeting of the Surat Municipal Corporation. Aparna did not respond to calls.
