State preps for G20 EMPOWER Summit, Smriti Irani set to launch digital inclusion platform
The event, to be held at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, is expected to see over 600 participants from across the world.

Union Minister for Women & Child Development Smriti Irani will launch the G20 EMPOWER Digital Inclusion Platform during the G20 EMPOWER Summit next week. The summit is set to be held in the state from August 1 to 4, which will also include a G20 Ministerial Conference on Women Empowerment between August 2 and 4.
The event, to be held at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, will be based on themes ‘Women-Led Development: Ensuring a Sustainable, Inclusive, and Equitable Global Economic Growth,’ and ‘Women-led Inclusive Development as Cusp of Inter-Generational Transformation’ respectively. It is expected to see over 600 participants from across the world.
A release from the Gujarat government on Saturday said that the EMPOWER Summit under India’s G20 Presidency will commence on July 31 with a fireside chat by Chairman Dr. Sangita Reddy– also the Joint Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd– along with Aman Gupta, Co-Founder & CMO, Boat India (TBC), Union Minister Irani will launch the G20 EMPOWER Digital Inclusion Platform along with G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant on August 1.
Secretary of Union Ministry of Women & Child Development Indevar Pandey, UN Women Executive Director Sima Bahous, and World Bank Vice-President Lakshmi Shyam Sunder will be attending the summit. Following an Opening Plenary Session by FICCI CSR & Community Development Committee Chairperson Rajashree Birla of Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development, Chairman & Managing Director SIDBI Sivasubramanian Ramann, and Former CEO & MD Hindustan Unilever Limited Sanjiv Mehta, five other panel discussions will also be held on various topics on women leadership in the presence of various dignitaries from social and corporate organisations, the release said.
The release said that following the inauguration of an exhibition on August 2 by Irani, five ministerial sessions will be held on Education: ‘Game-changing pathway to Women’s Empowerment’, ‘Digital Skilling for Women’s Empowerment, Education and STEM, Skilling Opportunities for Women’, and ‘Women in Emerging Technologies’.
Ministerial-level discussions will continue on August 3 on topics such as ‘Women and Space, Power of Culture and Women’s Empowerment’, ‘Climate Resilience Action-Impact on Women’s Health and Farming’, ‘Women and Girls as Changemakers in Climate Resilience Action’, ‘Partnership for Promoting leadership at Grassroots’, and ‘Women’s Entrepreneurship and Enterprise’.
The delegates will also visit Dandi Kutir to “witness cultural programs and dinner highlighting Gujarati culture and its delicacies”, the release said. The delegations will also visit GIFT City and participate in the Ahmedabad Heritage Walk.
