Sad bhavana rules ahead of Modi fast
Ex-Rajkot mayor and BJP councillor waves gun, hits Cong leader for removing posters, held.
Former Rajkot mayor and BJP councillor Uday Kangad was today arrested for assaulting city Congress president Jaswant Bhatti after Congress workers removed some posters of Chief Minister Narendra Modis Sadbhavana Mission fast near the Race Course ground.
The posters were reportedly put up around a statue of late PM Rajiv Gandhi on Race Course Ring Road near the airport.
In his complaint,Bhatti alleged that Kangad beat him up with a revolver butt in full public view. Bhatti said Congress workers had removed a few banners that blocked view of the statue and informed city BJP president Dhansukh Bhanderi over the phone to get it collected. Soon,Kangad arrived on the spot and assaulted Bhatti, alleging it was he who had removed the banners,Bhatti said.
Later,Congress leaders and workers met Commissioner of Police Geetha Johri, who asked them to lodge a complaint with the concerned police station at Pradhyumannagar. All we did was to remove a few banners and ask the BJP leaders to collect it, said Bhatti.
In a cross-complaint,Kangad accused Bhatti of abusing him and tearing up the posters.
In the evening,Congress workers led by Bhatti and acting city unit president Indranil Rajyaguru came out in large numbers and removed all the posters of the Sadbhavana fast featuring Modi on the Race Course Ring Road.
They also burnt these banners at various places, including at Kisanpara Chowk,Malaviya Chowk and Bahumali Bhavan.
Later, some Congress workers were detained by a police team led by Johri.
Reacting to the incident,BJP Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Rupani said the success of Sadbhavana Mission has baffled the Congress. The Congress provoked things. It was undemocratic to remove banners by themselves. What Kangad did was a reaction.
