Religious leaders belonging to Krishna Pranami sect will be launching a Hindu awareness campaign in the state with effect from Friday.
Speaking to mediapersons on Wednesday,Girish Maharaj of Uthkantheshwar in Kapadvanj taluka said that the Hindu community had a bitter experience with some of its leaders in the last few years, the demolition of temples in Gandhinagar last October being one of them.
He said a sant sammelan, comprising over half a dozen prominent religious personalities including Sumeru Kashipeeth Shankaracharya Jagatguru Narendra Saraswati, will be held in Vastrapur on April 24.
Thereafter, the sants and religious leaders would fan out in the state to create awareness among the masses.
Girish Maharaj said the move has nothing to do with politics, but said sants had always been misused by politicians for their benefits.
He elaborated on this and said that religious leaders talk about demolition of temples in Gandhinagar by the existing state government, but BJP leader L K Advani has no time to listen to the grievances of the people.
He said that several Hindu religious leaders were also being harassed in the state.
The temple demolition stopped only when Ashok Singhal came and held parleys with the state government officials, he said.
Questioned if the sants would also appeal to vote in favour of some candidates,he said sants would not issue any appeal in favour of or against any candidate or party.
It is for the people to decide whom to support, he said.
