The Rajkot Traffic Police have made action plans to keep an eye on robbers using autorickshaws and made registration of three-wheelers compulsory,a top traffic police officer said.
We have implemented the action plan by asking autoricksaw owners to make registration of their vehicles in the Traffic Branch compulsory, said Traffic Police officer L S Jadeja.
The registration number will carry the details about the owner and the driver of the three-wheeler as also the stand from where it operates. This will help the police nab gangs involved in looting passengers travelling in autorickshaws, said Jadeja.
The rickshaws will be given new T number which is compulsory to be printed on the left side of the front mirror,Jadeja said, adding that this will make it easy for the passengers and the police to easily identify the three-wheeler during any incident of robbery.
Nearly 4,000 autorickshaws are registered with city’s Road Transport Office. A decision to implement the new action plan was taken after several cases of passengers being looted in autorickshaws came to light, the police said.
