Rear Admiral Sritanu Guru assumed charge on Saturday (Express Photo)THE CENTRE on Saturday announced the appointment of Rear Admiral Sritanu Guru as the Flag Officer Commanding, Gujarat, Daman and Diu Naval Area (FOGNA), headquartered at INS Sardar Patel in Porbandar. The Gujarat Naval Area falls under the jurisdiction of the Western Naval Command.
Guru was recently promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral. Before his latest assignment, Guru served as the Commodore (Training) at the Southern Naval Command, said a statement issued on Saturday.
Guru took over the reins of Gujarat Naval Area from Rear Admiral Sathish Vasudev, on Saturday, as its ninth Flag Officer Commanding, at a ceremonial parade organised in Porbandar.
Vasudev was transferred a year after he took charge of Gujarat Naval Area on August 24, 2024.
The statement said, “In a career spanning over 30 years, Rear Admiral Sritanu Guru, a specialist in anti-submarine warfare, has held challenging operational and staff appointments, both afloat and ashore. The officer has commanded Indian Naval ships Astravahini, Ajay, Kuthar and Mysore. Ashore, Guru has held key staff appointments at the Directorate of Naval Plans, Naval Headquarters and as Naval Assistant to the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command. Prior to assuming the appointment of FOGNA, he served as Commodore (Training) at Headquarters, Southern Naval Command.”
Guru is an alumnus of RIMC, Dehradun; NDA, Khadakwasla; JMSDF Staff College Tokyo; NWC Goa and NDC, New Delhi, the statement added.
