Month-long desert festival Rann Utsav took off in grand fashion on Sunday with the state government introducing chopper service for tourists.
The tourism department has arranged for two helicopters to fly tourists to Bhuj,Mandavi,Dholavira and Narayan Sarovar and Dhordo where helipads are ready,according to an official release issued on Sunday.
State Tourism and Aviation Secretary Vipul Mittra is behind making ride of joy most entertaining and unforgettable for the people visiting Kutch this Ranostav, it added. This amazing service will give a thrill to the festivity in the Rann as the tourists can go around Kutch by helicopter, Mittra said.
The department has tied up with two helicopter service providers. Four-seater Bell-206,Jet Ranger,will fly at the maximum height of 10,000 feet and speed of 180 km per hour,while Robinson-44,a US-made three-seater helicopter,will fly at the maximum speed of 160 km per hour.
The fare for one person is Rs 7,777 for joy rides to Dhordo. One of the agencies is offering inaugural discount by charging Rs 3,000 a person for joy rides,added the release.
