Rain disrupts normal life,more showers predicted for 24 hrs

Heavy downpour led to severe water-logging,uprooting of trees,and short-circuits across Surat on Monday. The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall for the next 24 hours.

Sunday was practically dry,but heavy rain disrupted normal life on Monday morning. Several incidents of water-logging were reported from various parts of the city and many schools remained closed for the day.

The Met Department has predicted heavy rainfall across south Gujarat.

The district collectors of Surat,Valsad and Navsari have advised fishermen against venturing deep into the sea during high tide. No casualty has,however,been reported from south Gujarat.

Rainfall in Surat city was measured at 34.2 mm. At talukas like Kamrej it was 56 mm; Umarpada 31 mm; Olpad 27 mm; Choryasi 22 mm; Palsana 20 mm; Bardoli 20 mm; Mandvi 14 mm,and Mangrol 4 mm.

Navsari district witnessed moderate showers. Rainfall was measured 20 mm in Vasad town. At Chikhli it was 14 mm; Navsari town 10 mm; Gandevi 8 mm and Jalalpore 4 mm.

Rainfall measured in Valsad district was: Kaprada 76 mm; Dharampur 43 mm; Pardi taluka 26 mm; Umargam 22 mm,and Valsad 13 mm.

Disaster management teams have been kept on alert to deal with any eventuality. The water level at Ukai Dam has crossed the 295 feet mark following heavy inflow from Maharashtra.
