Gujarat confidential: New Chief

Ahead of the Rath Yatra on July 7, Vadodara city’s streets are crowded with hoardings of political parties and leaders displaying “Rath Yatra wishes”.

Gujarat BJP’s ‘Brihad Karobari’ (extended executive) meeting, scheduled to be held on July 4 and 5 in Botad district, may announce the name of next state party chief or the president in-charge.

Even as speculation is on who will be the next chief Surat West MLA Purnesh Modi, the complainant in the defamation case against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party national chief J P Nadda on June 28.

While Modi had said that it was a formal meeting to congratulate the leaders for their victory in the recent Lok Sabha elections, he is considered a rival to current state BJP chief C R Paatil.

Rath Yatra Wishes

Ahead of the Rath Yatra on July 7, Vadodara city’s streets are crowded with hoardings of political parties and leaders displaying “Rath Yatra wishes”.

From BJP leaders, including party’s city unit president Vijay Shah, to Congress corporator Balu Surve as well as private organisations, have put up hoardings with photos of Lord Jagannath and wishes for upcoming ‘Ashadi Beej’, when the Rath Yatra from Vadodara’s ISKCON temple will travel across the city.

Civic body officials said they are “awaiting instructions” to clear the hoardings that are in violation of its guidelines.
