The Gujarat High Court will on Monday hear a petition relating to voting on a no-trust motion, which was moved in the Prantij municipality.

The Gujarat High Court will on Monday hear a petition relating to voting on a no-trust motion, which was moved in the Prantij municipality. The ruling BJP and rebel members had approached the court following a pandemonium on Saturday over the counting of votes.

In the 21-member house, there are 12 BJP members and the remaining are Independents. Three rebel BJP members,Arvind Parmar,Mehboob Khan Baloch and Nayan Desai, quit the party and brought a no-trust motion with support from the Independents when the meeting was adjourned following the ruckus. Six of the 12 BJP members are said to have rebelled against the party and declared support to the Independents.

Three BJP members were detained following a police complaint of misconduct in the house was filed against them. They, along with the Independents, chose an independent member as the civic body president. However,BJP nominated president Jignesh Pandya refused to step down.

This led to a walkout by the Opposition and flinging of files by members irrespective of party affiliations. In the din that ensued, the situation worsened to such an extent that the police had to be called in to restore order.
