Power failure hits rural police control room

The Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Limited (MGVCL) officials said at least 400 service lines in the city and a two-km long high-tension (HT) lines were disturbed due to rains.

According to the Vadodara district Superintendent of Police,B S Jebaliya,power supply to the main control room of the district police was cut off since 2 am on Wednesday.

“This is for the first time power supply to district police headquarters has been hit since the time I have been here. We have asked the MGVCL authorities to fix up the power supply as soon as possible,” said the police officer.

Later in the day,police officers posted at the control room said the power was restored at 2 pm on Wednesday.

On the other hand,police officers said about 50 distress calls were made to the control room after the rains hit the district on Wednesday morning. “There was a lot of chaos in the morning as we did not have proper power back up here,” said a policeman at the control room.

MGVCL city engineer for Vadodara,J Gotkande said the repair works have already begun in the area. As per MGVCL officials,three of the seven electricity poles which were uprooted during the downpour were reinstalled till 10 am on Wednesday.

“Of the 400 service lines hit in the rains,200 have been fixed. The work on two-km stretch of high-tension (HT) line has already begun,while three low-tension lines have been restored. Besides,25 feeder lines have been restored as well,” said the official.
