A city-based consumer rights body,Consumer Education and Research Society (CERS),on Saturday asked the state power regulator to penalise power distribution companies in the state for not providing necessary Earth Terminals along with the one lakh new power connections have been released recently. These Earth Terminals ensures safety of consumers and protects electrical gadgets.
The violation of these rules comes as a shock,in spite of CERS writing frequently to Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission and constantly drawing its attention to the violation of the directives issued in the order and lack of implementation by electricity companies, states a CERS release here. These new power connections have been released by four power distribution companies (Discoms).
The GERC order of 2009 directs Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) and its four Discoms to release new connections by providing Earth Terminal.
