The Patel brothers were felicitated for showing bravery to expose the politician-police extortion nexus,which led to the arrest of former state minister Amit Shah in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case. The event organised in the Bapunagar area of Ahmedabad saw participation of both the Leuva and Kadva groups.

Raman,one of the two brothers who has testified before the CBI,said the felicitation programme is the coming together of the community that wields political punch and had earlier shifted allegiance to the BJP. The Gujarat Police have treated us even worse than terrorists and I fear my

Ramesh,former Congress councillor from Naranpura,said that various community leaders had gathered a week ago to come forward and felicitate the Patel brothers.

The function was attended by various Patel leaders from the Congress,Maha-Gujarat Janata Party,Nationalist Congress Party,local BJP workers and Ghanshyam Amin,brother of senior Congress leader and former deputy chief minister Narhari Amin.

The Patel brothers are key witnesses in the encounter case. CBI has stated that the firing on the Popular Builders,owned by the Patel brothers,office was part of a larger conspiracy to kill Sheikh.
