The government has also identified 11 other towns to build greenfield airports. These are Ankleshwar, Morbi, Rajpipla, Botad, Dahod, Dwarka, Dhordo, Rajula, Ambaji, Dholavira and Palitana.

The state government on Wednesday signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Airport Authority of India (AAI) to explore the possibility of building greenfield airports in Vadnagar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s hometown; Siddhpur, which is considered the Kashi of Gujarat and is the constituency of Gujarat Civil Aviation minister Balvantsinh Rajput; and Kevadia, which is home to the Statue of Unity.
The government has also identified 11 other towns to build greenfield airports. These are Ankleshwar, Morbi, Rajpipla, Botad, Dahod, Dwarka, Dhordo, Rajula, Ambaji, Dholavira and Palitana.
“The state government and AAI will proceed on these projects only after examining the technical feasibility and land availability” for these projects, a statement said. “Not just that, the state government and AAI will explore possibilities of developing airports at Vadnagar, Siddhpur, and Kevadia after examining the techno-economic feasibility and availability of land,” it added. The initiative is to help boost tourism, regional connectivity, trade and commerce, and job creation through the development of aviation, the statement said.
It was also decided to expand the state government’s airstrips at Mehsana, Amrelli, and Mandvi. Six other airports, managed by AAI, have been identified for expansion at Bhavnagar, Porbandar, Kandla, Vadodara, Keshod, and Surat.
A 10-member coordination committee, under the chairpersonship of AAI, will be formed for the projects.
