At least two persons were injured in firing during a clash between two groups of a community in the Kasba area of Dahod town in Gujarat on Tuesday, police said

Five rounds were fired during the clash, they added. An FIR was registered at Dahod A Division police station and police launched a manhunt to nab the accused persons.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Dahod, Jagdish Bhandari said that the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon when two accused brothers — Ejaz Khan Pathan and Irshad Khan Pathan – allegedly opened fire at a man named Faizan Maulvi. Maulvi and a pedestrian, Saqeen Malek, were injured in the firing.

Dahod police officers, including those from Bhandari, Local Crime Branch, Special Operations Group as well as units of Dahod A and Dahod B Division police station reached the spot and cordoned off the area.

The injured were rushed to a hospital.

Bhandari said, “Both Ejaz and Irshad Pathan indulged in a verbal altercation with some persons. The injured man whom they opened fire at was allegedly trying to calm the situation. Primary investigation revealed that a mauser pistol was used for firing. We have lodged an FIR at Dahod A division police station for attempt to murder, Arms Act and other relevant sections… The probe is underway.”

According to police, the area witnessed tense moments as people scurried for cover when Irshad allegedly opened fire.

Maulvi is said to have sustained bullet injuries in his stomach and is currently under treatment. The Pathan brothers have been involved in altercations and physical fights with a group of persons in the locality and Maulvi was seen as a part of the rival group of the Pathan brothers, police said.

Both Pathan brothers are yet to be apprehended.
