A day after three workers were killed and one injured under the debris of concrete blocks, which collapsed at the construction site of the C6 package of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor project of the NHSRCL, at Rajupura village near Vasad in Anand district, a four-member technical committee has begun its probe to ascertain the cause of the accident.

Sources said that the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) committee comprises structural engineering experts from IIT Madras as well as NHSRCL along with a geotechnical expert from IIT Gandhinagar besides a member of the consultancy group TCAP, which is involved in the project management.

The committee will visit the site to examine the safety measures while also delving into the design and execution of the ongoing well foundation work to determine the cause of the accident. Sources said that the committee will submit its primary report within two weeks and a final report within 30 days.

The NHSRCL will also review the safety aspects during the construction of the 508-km corridor based on the recommendations of the four-member committee, sources said.

Following the accident on Tuesday, NHSRCL MD Vivek Gupta, in a statement, had said that an inquiry would be conducted as the “site is a restricted, barricaded area” where no one is allowed to venture. Gupta had said that the inquiry would ascertain how the workers reached the spot where the high-tension strands balancing the metal frames are said to have snapped, leading to the collapse of the concrete blocks.

While three workers were killed, a fourth injured worker is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital and is said to be “recovering well”.

Meanwhile, Rajupura village, where the incident occurred, bid a tearful adieu to Kanu Solanki, one of the deceased workers and a local resident.
