Over 40,000 on the mark in Vadodara Marathon today

Over 40,000 people,including 45 international professional runners,politicians and bureaucrats,will run on city roads and participate in the 3rd Vadaodara International Half Marathon on Sunday.

Over 40,000 people,including 45 international professional runners,politicians and bureaucrats,will run on city roads and participate in the 3rd Vadaodara International Half Marathon on Sunday.

The half marathon will be flagged off by Chief Minister Narendra Modi at 6.30 pm from Vaccine Ground on Old Padra Road.

The organisers claimed that Vadodara Marathon will be the biggest event of its kind in India,overtaking the recently held Mumbai marathon in which around 38,000 people had participated.

“So far,around 40,400 people have registered for the Marathon. This is a new record,” director of Vadodara Marathon Satyen Kubalkar said.

Besides the main event,there will be categories for men and women amateurs and four 15-km runs. The five-km joy run has attracted the largest registration with 32,300 entries. As many as 34 runners,28 man and six women,from Ethiopia will also be in fray to win the top honours. There will be nine runners from Kenya and one each from Palestine and the US.
