Over 1 lakh fake ration cards found in Surat

The district supply officers started drive to check the fake ration cards in Surat. The drive began from Umarpada taluka,where the officials found over 1,800 fake ration cards. Later,the Varachha area was covered and over 40,000 fake ration cards were detected.

In Udhna zone,around 37,000 fake ration cards were found from 37 fair price shops.

On Friday,after completing detailed verification of 33 fair price shops,the officials unearthed 24,000 fake ration cards.

The District Supply Department had detected over 1 lakh fake ration cards till Friday. The drive still continues and many more fair price shops are yet to be covered under the drive.

District Supply officer M M Makwana said: “We have got a good response in this drive and we are expecting to unearth more fake ration cards.”

He added: “The drive to detect fake ration card is a time-bound process as many ration card holders are not in the city and had gone to their native place. We have cancelled all the fake ration cards and even intimated the fair price shop license owners.”
