University of Cincinnati, Ohio, President Dr Neville G Pinto on Wednesday said lifelong learning is not optional but essential in the ever-changing world.

He was speaking at the 34th convocation of Nirma University in Ahmedabad.

“The world is changing faster than ever – driven by technology, artificial intelligence and global interconnection. What will set you apart won’t be how much you know, but how creatively you can think and how boldly you can innovate.” Dr Pinto, who was the chief guest at the convocation, said.

“The most successful organisations will be those that integrate human insight and machine intelligence seamlessly – each amplifying the other. And with that integration, the pace of change will accelerate beyond anything we’ve known. This rapid transformation also means that learning can’t end with a degree. Knowledge will remain the currency of success, but its value will depend on your willingness to keep it current. Lifelong learning won’t be optional; it will be essential,” he said.

Dr Karsanbhai K Patel, President, Nirma University, who presided over the event, emphasised the importance of service to the community and encouraged students to be responsible and proactive citizens. “Self-discipline is a must in every aspect of life. There is no shortcut to achievement. Only self-discipline and hard work can take you to your cherished goal,” Patel said.
