National seminar emphasises need for value education

Spiritual leaders delivered lectures on ‘Conceptualisation of Value-based Education’ and pointed out the need to include value education in the syllabus.

Over 250 principals and teachers from various institutes attended the day-long seminar.

L D Arts College Principal M D Chavda,said: “The need for including value education in the syllabus has been stressed upon by spiritual leaders,NGOs and academicians.”

He added: “We are lacking value in higher education,and there is a requirement to show students the moral path to divert them from evils like cyber-crime and consumerism,and instil trustworthiness,responsibility and respect.”

The inaugural lecture was delivered by Brahmabihari Swami of the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple,Ahmedabad.

He stressed on the need to instil values at the college level.

Also present in the seminar were representatives of Brahma Samaj,Swaminarayan Sect,Ramakrishna Mission,Chinmaya Mission and the Gayatri Parivar.

The speakers pointed out that the students should be directly involved through seminars,workshops and lectures.

“Inclusive ways like introducing prayers,projects and social activities will be taken up by the individual institutes to promote value in education,” said Chavda.

State Education Minister Ramanlal Vora and Higher Education Commissioner Jayanti Ravi were present at the seminar.

BAOU Vice-Chancellor Dr Manoj Soni,Gujarat University Vice-Chancellor Dr Parimal Trivedi,Shikshan Bachao Andolan Samiti president Harshad Shah,Secretary of Shikshan,Utthan Nyas,and Dr Atul Kothari,addressed the sessions along with the spiritual leaders.
