Naroda Gam (2012): Deserted,in fright

Abdul Sattar,who has come for a funeral in Naroda Gam,points to a well where bodies of those killed in the riots were allegedly dumped. “The stench from this well continued for almost a year.”

In Naroda Gam,they say Muslims were sitting ducks in 2002. While those in Naroda Patiya fought the rioters,they simply fled. Still,11 of them were burnt alive.

In today’s Naroda Gam,once a bustling market place,just 10-15 families are left. Sattar,who has since moved to Juhapura,says,“There was no money to set up everything again. We fell on relatives in neighbouring states. We made better homes with the compensation money and invested in our children’s education.”
