In the run-up to the Vibrant Gujarat Summit to be held next year, Morbi is set to host the ‘Vibrant Gujarat-Vibrant District’ event on Monday where it will showcase its ceramic and sanitaryware industry.

Morbi’s ceramic industry, as per a government release on Saturday, employs four lakh people and produces 75 per cent of the country’s wall clocks. “Morbi district’s ceramic cluster ranks as the world’s second-largest producer of ceramic products. With around 1,000 ceramic units, the district achieves an annual turnover of approximately ?60,000 crore. These units collectively provide direct and indirect employment to approximately 4,00,000 people.

The three-day event beginning Monday, under the One District One Product initiative, is to be held in the presence of Minister of State for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Jagadish Vishwakarma. The district had the potential to lead Gujarat even in the polypack industry, producing 500,000 metric tonnes of PP Woven fabric through its 200 units, the government release stated.

“This sector provides direct and indirect employment to approximately 15,000 to 20,000 people in Morbi,” the release said. The district has 80-90 wall clock units that directly or indirectly employ 18,000 people, of which 16,000 are women, as per the release.
