Rajasthan Youth Congress Secretary Charmesh Sharma has filed a defamation case against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly making derogatory remarks against the country’s first Prime Minister Jahawarlal Nehru.

Sharma filed the case yesterday in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, which has decided to hear the matter on July 6. He has alleged that at a public meeting of the BJP in Gandhinagar on June 5,Modi said that Nehru had “done nothing for children”.

Sharma said he and other followers and admirers of Nehru were “deeply heart and pained” by Modi’s comments, which he had heard on a private television channel and read on a website. He said in the petition that Nehru’s birthday on November 14 is observed as Children’s Day because of his contribution to the child welfare.
