Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Gujarat Working President and Dediapada MLA Chaitar Vasava, who has been lodged at Vadodara Central Jail since July this year, will attend the upcoming monsoon session of the Gujarat Assembly between September 8 and 10, under police escort.
The Narmada Sessions Court on Monday granted interim bail for three days to Vasava to be able to attend the Assembly session, on the condition that he would not move out of the police cordon escorting him to the Vidhan Sabha in Gandhinagar.
Vasava had filed a plea in the Narmada Sessions Court seeking interim bail to “attend the Assembly Session as a people’s representative to raise issues of his constituency”, citing that it was his duty towards the voters, who had elected him as their representative through a democratic process.
This comes nearly two months after he was arrested on July 5 in an alleged case of attempt to murder lodged by Dediapada taluka BJP president Sanjay Vasava, after a physical brawl during a meeting at the Dediapada Prant office.
Additional Sessions Judge A V Hirapara, who had earlier rejected Vasava’s regular bail plea, granted interim bail on the condition that Vasava would bear the expenditure of the police escort for three days in Gandhinagar.
Chaitar’s plea for regular bail in the Gujarat High Court is pending, following three adjournments. The HC was to hear the plea on August 28, but since the Gujarat High Court Advocates Association (GHCAA) had resolved to abstain from work in protest of the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium to transfer Justice Sandeep Bhatt from the Gujarat HC to Madhya Pradesh HC, Chaitar’s plea was adjourned in absence of his advocate for one more time.
Vasava’s lawyer K J Tadvi told The Indian Express, “It is an interim bail to allow Chaitar Vasava to attend the monsoon session of the Assembly… He will pay for the police escort and he has been asked not to move outside the police cordon. Other conditions include not to misuse the bail and also ensure that law and order is maintained… So, accordingly, he will remain in Gandhinagar for three days in police escort and attend the Assembly session. He will return to the Vadodara Central Jail on September 10, after the Assembly session.”
