AUDA has seven schemes to develop Sarkhej,Oklaf,Fathewadi,Sanathal and Makarba areas of city

The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) has recently proposed 15 town planning (TP) schemes for developing areas of Ahmedabad out of which seven are for Sarkhej,Oklaf,Fathewadi,Sanathal and Makarba areas of the city which have a predominantly Muslim population.

These areas, which now adjoin the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar highway, witnessed an exodus of Muslims in wake of communal disturbances over the past few decades. These areas have also seen mushrooming of real estate projects in recent years.

The proposed schemes are expected to boost planned growth in these areas many of which continue to suffer from lack of civic amenities.

A senior state official involved in the project said,“For the first time in two decades,a go-ahead for TP schemes in Muslim-dominant areas has been given”.

Another official expressed surprise, saying he found it a bit unusual that the government is showing interest in the development of these areas “which were largely neglected in civic body’s and AUDA’s town planning schemes for many years”.

The other proposed town planning schemes that been given go-ahead are for Tragad-Jagatpur-Chandlodiya-Ranip-Chenpur,Ranip-Chenpur-Chandlodiya,Tragad-Jundal,Chandkheda-Jundal,Tragad,Charodi-Tragad,Charodi-Tragad-Jundal and Jundal.
