Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials have nabbed a peon attached to the city Mayor for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 100 from a widow to get her pension released from the Mayor’s office.

As per details,Mushira Masalawala,a resident of Salabatpura, went to Surat Mayor Raju Desai’s office on Thursday afternoon to withdraw her pension amount for which she needed the Mayor’s signature.

Mayor’s peon Jayesh Galchar reportedly asked her to pay Rs 200 but she said she could not afford it. After some bargaining,a deal was struck for Rs 100.

Mushira told Galchar she would bring the amount on Friday afternoon.

Mushira then contacted Surat ACB office and lodged a complaint. ACB officials laid a trap on Friday and as Mushira handed a 100-rupee note to Galchar, they nabbed the peon. Galchar was later taken to ACB office at Nanpura.
