The city crime branch officials arrested three brothers late on Friday allegedly responsible for planting five crude bombs in a chicken van which were recovered just a day before the Jagannath Rath Yatra. The brothers had reportedly planted bombs in a van belonging to their neighbours with whom they have personal enmity for last 12 years.
Crime branch officials arrested Sajid Akhtar Husain and his two brothers Asif and Mohsin, residents of Gomtipur. The officials said the trio had allegedly planted five crude bombs in the van and informed the city police control about it.
Hussain brothers had enmity with Qureshi family for the last 12 years. In 1998,the two families had a fight over some issue after which Husains were booked for attempt to murder. Since then,Husains were trying to compromise but Qureshi family was against it, said Paresh Solanki, police inspector, crime branch.
Solanki said couple of days before Jagannath Rath Yatra, the Husain brothers hatched a plan to fix Qureshi family. The brothers made crude bombs and planted them in a chicken van belonging to the Qureshi family. Then, they anonymously informed the police control room about the bombs while claiming that the bombs were planted to disrupt the yatra.
The caller also told the police that bombs were planted by Md Shafi Qureshi and two of his relatives, residents of Patel Ni Chali,Gomtipur. After we found the bomb and defused them we questioned Qureshi and let them go as we had doubt about the anonymous caller, said Solanki.
He further said Husains had purchased a new SIM card in the name of someone else. They allegedly used the SIM to call the police control room and destroyed it immediately. Police have also booked the owner and two of his executives of the shop who sold the SIM card without verifying the documents
