Man shot dead in Surat ‘turf war’

A History-Sheeter was shot dead allegedly by another known offender over gang rivalry near Madina Masjid in the Limbayat area of Surat on Wednesday night.

Police said Salim Pathan was killed by Guddu Saiyed and his two accomplices,Manu Shaikh and Nasru Shah,to control theft activities in textile markets.

Saiyed was arrested from the Bardoli highway on Thursday when he was on the way to his native

village at Malegaon in

Maharashtra.

The incident occurred around midnight,police said,adding that Salim died on the spot after receiving three gunshots fired from a country-made pistol.

Salim’s brother,Shabbir,in his complaint named Guddu and his friends as accused,alleging that the trio had taken Salim out of the house.

Limbayat police inspector L B Zala said,“The accused and deceased were criminals. Several cases are registered against them at different police stations in the city. The two other accused involved in the case are absconding.”

Police said the duo had fallen out over establishing control in theft and illegal activities in textile markets.

Salim had established himself in theft of textiles from markets on the Ring Road.

They said Guddu was trying to “enter” his area and Salim had reportedly warned him against this.

Their rivalry began in June when Guddu had allegedly planned to trap Salim in a false shootout case.
