There was all-round chaos at the felicitation ceremony of Chief Minister Narendra Modi after he was selected as the BJPs prime ministerial candidate. Organised by the newly-formed Gujarat Abhiwadan Samiti, the programme at Gandhinagars Town Hall had more than double the number of people in audience than the auditorium could accommodate. Religious leaders of various groups queued up to wish him as Modi stood on the stage. Soon,it was a stampede-like situation, with flower bouquets flying, some people not getting a chance to give the CM the gift they had brought for him,and some others even losing their skull caps.
Nothing symbolic
Members of the Muslim community who enrolled as members of the BJP Minority Morcha went home with a receipt of the membership application form that did not have the partys symbol. The Rs 5 enrolment form given by the Minority Morcha to launch the membership drive on Tuesday had a lotus symbol on it. However, the counter receipt which the new recruit got,did not have any symbol, making it impossible to ascertain what the receipt was issued for. The 10-page booklet containing application form, printed in green colour, was numbered, but there was no numbering on the form.
Breaking record
Ahmedabad Mayor Meenaxi Patel was one of those who offered to donate their eyes at a camp organised to mark the Chief Ministers birthday on Tuesday. The target of ensuring 2,000 registration was surpassed, and a spokesperson of the camp said that 2,585 persons had registered for the donation in 18 minutes and 54 seconds against the deadline of 60 minutes. The organisers claimed that they had broken the Guinness record held by Turkey where 1,981 persons had registered in one hour in March this year.
