The state government on Wednesday informed the Gujarat High Court that the process to fill the post of Lokayukta which has been lying vacant for seven years is in its final stages.
The Additional Advocate General said this before a Division Bench of justices Bhagwati Prasad and J C Upadhyay during the hearing of a petition demanding appointment of the Lokayukta.
According to the details available,RTI activist Amit Jethwa had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the HC praying direction to the government to fill up the important post.
Petitioners lawyer Vijay Nangesh said that appearing on behalf of the government,the Additional Advocate General had made a statement that the government has already decided to fill up the post and that the procedure will be completed very soon.
Following this,the court disposed of the petition.
