Land-grabbing case: Vadodara builder aide surrenders,released

Thakkar,who was granted anticipatory bail by the Gujarat High Court on August 13,will be interrogated by police on Monday.

An accomplice of builder Sanju Bharambe,Yogesh Thakkar,surrendered before the Padra police over five months after a case was registered against him in connection with grabbing farmlands in Padra’s Jaspur village.

Thakkar,who was granted anticipatory bail by the Gujarat High Court on August 13,will be interrogated by police on Monday.

Thakkar,along with former revenue officer Anshu Srivastava and Akram Sindhi,has been accused of aiding Bharambe in encroaching on government land and grabbing agricultural land in Jaspur village allegedly on the basis of forged documents.

Police said Thakkar was released after primary interrogation soon after he surrendered in court on Saturday. He has been asked to be present on Monday for further questioning. Bharambe,the main accused in the case,was arrested in February. He was granted bail earlier this month along with Srivastava. Police are yet to arrest Sindhi.

“We will question Thakkar,focusing on his role in aiding Bharambe in grabbing agricultural and government land in Jaspur village,” Deputy SP (rural) Usha Rada said.

Meanwhile,district

administration razed part of Bharambe’s farmhouse built on the Mahi river bank in Jaspur village as part of

the ongoing investigation in the case,after a detailed

survey,carried out by District Inspector of Land Records ,found that it had encroached on government land.
