‘Lalu’s remarks on Babri Masjid demolition was misrepresented’

Ahmed Patel, political advisor to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, said on Sunday that Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s comments on the Babri Masjid demolition issue were “misrepresented”.

Ahmed Patel, political advisor to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, said on Sunday that Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s comments on the Babri Masjid demolition issue were “misrepresented”.

After a public meeting at Netrang in Bharuch,Patel told Newsline that the Union railway minister called him up in the morning and clarified his position on the statement. Lalu was reported to have said that the Congress was as responsible for the mosque demolition as the BJP.

“He told me that his statement regarding Babri Masjid was misrepresented. I would make no further comment on the issue. I believe in him rather than the media reports,” Patel said.

Earlier in his speech,Patel criticised Chief Minister Narendra Modi for his reference to the Congress as a budhiya (old woman) and gudiya (a doll) party.

“Modi should maintain decorum when he speaks. It does not look good when the Gujarat CM calls the Congress budhiya and gudiya. Unhe (Modi) aisi halki bhasha ka prayog nahi karna chahiye (He should not speak in such cheap language),” he said.

On the black money issue raised by the BJP,Patel said: “Their prime ministerial candidate L K Advani claims he is going to bring back the black money deposited in Swiss banks in 100 days if the BJP comes to power. The Congress supports the issue, but we want to know how Advani would bring it back within 100 days.”

He added that the BJP should concentrate on recovering the black money within the country before talking about bringing it back from Swiss banks.
