Notwithstanding multiple apologies tendered by Union Minister Parshottam Rupala for his remarks against the Kshatriyas, Gujarat continues to witness widespread protests from the community.
On Tuesday, Kshatriya community members, led by women, gathered at the Vadodara District Collectors’ office to hand over a memorandum against the statements made by the Union Minister during his campaign in Rajkot. Carrying banners, the protesters chanted slogans and demanded that Rupala be pulled out of the Lok Sabha race.
“The apology given by Rupala after he made the statement was more for the BJP itself… We are not satisfied by the way the party is handling this issue by being adamant about fielding a candidate, who has made such disgraceful statements against the community. The party must change the candidate or face the wrath of the Kshatriyas,” a community member said.
In Bharuch, too, the protesters who chanted slogans against the BJP and demanded that Rupala’s candidature be withdrawn, also clashed with the police after the cops foiled their attempt to burn an effigy. The community handed over a memorandum to Bharuch Resident Additional District Collector N. M. Ghangal.
“The women of our community are willing to fight the election against Rupala and defeat him. If the BJP does not withdraw his candidature, it will not be good for their party… We just do not want Rupala to be withdrawn (as Rajkot candidate), but he should also be kept away from active politics because of his statement,” said a woman representative of the Kshatriya community in Bharuch.
In the tribal belt of Naswadi in Chhota Udepur district, too, members of the Kshatriya-Rajput community submitted a memorandum at the taluka panchayat office. A representative said, “The comments made by Rupala at the event against the Rajput kings are disgraceful as it is the Rajput kings who sacrificed their lives to protect the Hindu religion, fighting invaders and protecting the people. It is our demand that Rupala should be withdrawn as a candidate; otherwise, the entire community will continue to stand against the BJP”.
