Key accused in Chandkheda rape and murder case arrested in UP

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrested the main accused and mastermind in the Chandkheda senior citizen rape and murder case from Bulandshahr (UP) late on Sunday

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrested the main accused and mastermind in the Chandkheda senior citizen rape and murder case from Bulandshahr (UP) late on Sunday. The crime branch had earlier arrested three others in UP.

The accused,identified as Hamid Asif Joje (20),was a resident of Bhaipura Dakhkhana of Bulandshahr. Hamid and his three accomplices Kartik,Shyamsingh Jat and Shyam Shankar Verma had raped,murdered and looted Pushpa Nathani at her bungalow in Chandkheda in April 2013.

The Chandkheda police had probed the case without finding any leads,after which,the case was transferred to the crime branch.

Officers at the crime branch said Kartik claimed to know Nathani (50),a resident of Ratnakalash Complex in Chandkheda,and called her to meet him.

However,he stayed downstairs and sent Hamid and Shyam Singh instead to rob her. The duo allegedly raped her before throttling her to death using a bathroom towel.

They looted gold jewellery,laptops and mobiles phones worth Rs 1.62 lakh from her house and fled after jumping from the window.

According to the crime branch,Hamid and his aides,jobless in UP,were involved in petty crimes in Bulandshahr too. They knew people in Ahmedabad working in the textile mills and came to the city to join the textile business.

The accused would undertake recce of the nearby Bopal area at nights following which they executed robberies at Bopal Sterling City,Vibhusha Bungalows and Gulzar Park at Fatehwadi area of the city.

Also,they had earlier attacked a security guard at an Axis Bank ATM in Bavla Taluka of Ahmedabad District. Their attempt at robbing,however, was thwarted due to the resulting commotion.
