Reacting to the threat of withdrawing Amul brand from the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) over the issue of accepting the resignation of the federation’s managing director, federation chairman Parthi

Bhatol said on Monday that Amul chairman has not talked to him on the issue so far.

“I have read about it in newspapers only,” Bhatol said.

Stating that there appeared to be “some politics” in the statements of Amul chairman Ramsinh Parmar,Bhatol said “politics and brand” should not be mixed.

“Keep politics away from the brand in the interest of Gujarat and milk producers,” Bhatol urged milk union presidents and GCMMF members.

“Amul is Gujarat’s pride,” he added. “Amul has become synonymous with Gujarat in the country and outside. I don’t think any responsible person will raise the issue of withdrawing Amul brand from GCMMF,which has spent huge amounts on advertising and strengthening the brand and identifying it with Gujarat,” said Bhatol.

He said if Parmar or somebody else wanted to withdraw Amul brand from GCMMF,the issue needs to be raised at an appropriate forum and that forum is the federation.

Bhatol, who has been heading GCMMF since Verghese Kurien was ousted in 2006,said there was no logic in Parmar’s threat.

“We are strictly following the quality control policy employed since the days of the federation’s founder-chairman Kurien and there is no complaint about it from anywhere,” said Bhatol.
