The members of the Association of Management of Self Financed Engineering Colleges (AMSFEC) have in a meeting held at Vidhyanagar on Friday decided to appeal the state government to keep away from making any change in the current structure of the Gujarat Technological University Act (GTUA).
According to GTUA,as it was passed by the State Assembly, the self-financed engineering colleges can have 15 per cent seats reserved under NRI quota and 10 per cent under management quota.
C L Patel, the president of AMSFEC,said,Self-financed engineering colleges have contributed to the development of the society during last 15 years and we hope the government does not create obstacles in running of the institutions which have been providing world-level education.
Thirty-nine self-financed engineering colleges are operating in the state.
Patel has asked the government to extend helping hand to these institutes for the betterment of the society.
He further said,The fee structure needs to be realistic. As the government has accepted the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission,it has increased the financial burden of the institutes making it almost impossible to run them with the existing fee structure.
An official from the Charotar Vidhya Mandal said the self-financed colleges feel the state government is keen to get a share from the 10 percent quota of the SFI managements.
Patel said the association has also decided to discuss the issue with the Chief Minister and Education Minister Ramanlal Vora.
