Four die in road mishap in Surat
Surat: Four people died and three others sustained injuries after they were hit by a speeding car on the Pandesara-Bamroli road on Thursday. Police said the car first hit a motorcycle near Sosyo circle and later collided with other vehicles and pedestrians. Three people died on the spot,while one succumbed to his injuries on his way to the hospital. Six others,including a woman,were rushed to the hospital. A complaint of rash driving has been lodged.
Inspector M R Chawda said: “The driver had lost control. After hitting the motocycle,he was scared and wanted to escape. He was not drunk and was in a hurry to reach his workplace.”

Labourer sets self on fire
Vadodara: A 40-year-old man who set himself on fire near VUDA circle is battling for his life at the SSG Hospital. The police said Vinod Tadvi,a daily wage labourer working on a construction site near VUDA circle,was said to be mentally unsound. Manjula Tadvi,a relative,said Vinod is from Nada village in Dabhoi. “He is unmarried and does not have much connection with his family.”
SSG Hospital’s Resident Medical Officer B Patel said,“We are yet to know the mental condition of the patient,but he doused himself with inflammable liquid and set himself on fire. His condition is serious.”
Police Sub Inspector K B Vankar said,“We will take his statement after his treatment is over. Preliminary investigation shows he was mentally unwell.”

MSU to hold event for differently-abled
VADODARA: This Sunday,nearly 800 hundred differently-abled children from various parts of the state are expected to participate in Prerna,an annual event organised by the students of Faculty of Technology and Engineering,M S University. The day-long event provides a platform to these children to showcase their talent. Harshil Bhatt,member of the organising team,said that different games and competitions,including braille writing and cricket for visually impaired,will be held. “

Minister meets jail officials
Agriculture Minister Dileep Sanghani,who was given the additional charge of jails after the arrest of Amit Shah,on Thursday held a meeting of senior prison officials. Sanghani said he held the meeting to acquaint himself with the department. Asked if he discussed Shah’s security,Sanghani replied in negative.
