Amul bags award for environmental initiative
The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) has won an award for the best environmental initiative in the sustainability category at the 4th Global Dairy Conference. The event was held in Austria between April 27 and April 29.
International Dairy Federation (IDF) president Richard Doyle presented the award to GCMMF Chairman Parthi Bhatol and General Manager S T Desai.
GCMMF bagged the award for its environmental initiative of tree plantation. Milk producers of about 15,000 villages planted over 155 lakh saplings in the last three years. The plantation drive was carried out every year from August 15,2007. Amul has also bagged the prestigious Shrishti G-Cube award for good green governance in the service category. The inaugural award programme attracted 170 entries from 29 countries under 12 different categories. The awards are given for innovations and excellence in the global dairy industry.
Burglars target 2 houses in Paldi
Two major housebreaks were reported from the Paldi area of Ahmedabad on Thursday where the victims reportedly lost cash and jewellery totalling over Rs 4 lakh. Burglars targeted houses of Omkar Tripathi at Tirthkant apartments near the Mahalakshmi crossroads and Bhupendra Shah at the Dharnidhar society,said the Ellisbridge police. They added that Tripathis house was robbed on April 28. The miscreants had broken the lock of the main door to enter the house and stole gold jewellery worth Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 5,000 in cash. In the other incident also the burglars broke the lock of the main door and decamped with jewellery worth over Rs 2 lakh and Rs 20,000 in cash. The police have registered cases of theft and further investigations are on.
GSHSEB finalises dates for declaring results
The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has finalised the dates for the declaration of this years Class X and XII examinations. GSHSEB Deputy Chairman K K Patel said the top 10 results will be declared for both district and state level rankings. The Class X board result will be declared on June 3,while the Class XII (Science) results will be out on May 20. The Class XII (General) results will be declared on May 27.
Harin Pathak is new chief of UNESCO body
Ahmedabad East MP Harin Pathak has been elected president of the contact group of Parliamentarians for Education in UNESCO,New Delhi Cluster. Besides India,the UNESCO New Delhi Cluster has representatives from Bangladesh,Bhutan,Maldives,Nepal and Sri Lanka.
