Share broker commits suicide
SURAT: A share broker here committed suicide by hanging himself in his office. The police assume the broker might have taken the step after incurring huge loss in the bourse.
Ramesh Goyani (29),a resident of Green Park society at Singhanpore,carried out share trading from his office at Gopaldarshan complex in the Katargam area.
On Thursday,Goyani told his wife that he was going to a temple and would return in half an hour. He had kept both his mobiles at home. When Goyani failed to return home for long,his brother Jayesh went to the temple and found he had not visited it. Jayesh then went to Goyanis office and found it locked from the inside. On breaking open the shutter,he found Goyanis body hanging from the ceiling.
Katargam police rushed to the spot and sent the body to the Municipal Corporation- run SMIMER hospital for postmortem. The police have started investigation in the matter and taken the statements of the neighbouring shopkeepers and Goyanis family members. Inspector A S Shukla said: We have found that he had invested a lot of money in the share market business and he might have taken this drastic step due to loss in the market. We are trying to find out how much money he had invested and also the source of his money.
Two days after taking acid,youth dies
AHMEDABAD: A jobless youth from the Amraiwadi area,who had allegedly attempted suicide at the Parvati Complex two days ago,died on Thursday.
The police said Umesh Kadia,a construction worker,had reportedly consumed acid on Tuesday. He was rushed to the L G Hospital and then to the Emergency ward of V S Hosptial. He was declared dead today .
Investigating Officer,Head Constable Narendra Singh,said: His brother claimed Umesh was under severe depression and pressure,as he was under huge debts. Money lenders were reportedly harassing him to repay his loans.
The police have registered a case of accidental death and taken up further investigations.
Nathwani appointed GCA vice president
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) appointed Parimal Nathwani as vice president on Thursday.
Nathwani,a senior president (Corporate Affairs) with Reliance Industries,is also a Rajya Sabha member from Jharkhand. Chief Minister Narendra Modi is the president of the state cricket body. The other two VPs of GCA are Minister of State for Home Amit Shah and Kantibhai Desai.

Pakistani infiltrators joint interrogation on February 1
AHMEDABAD: Pakistani infiltrator Sabbir Ahmed Usman,who had infiltrated into India on January 25,has been shifted to Vav police station in Banaskantha. Usmaan will be interrogated jointly by the Central Intelligence Bureau and ATS on February 1.
Arun Kumar Sinha,IG (Gujarat Frontier),said: Usmans interrogation doesnt show any malicious intention for his coming from Pakistan. He was arrested between the zero line and the fence. Our interrogation is over and we have handed him over to the Gujarat Police.
DySP B S Ninama told The Indian Express: Officers from the Central IB,ATS,CID and Banaskantha police will interrogate him on Monday. He will be shifted to the Joint Interrogation Office (JIC) in the same week. He hasnt revealed much to the Banaskantha police. Usmaan,a native of Tirupur in Badina Taluka of Sindh province,was arrested at Dantiwada by the BSF while he was tying to cross Pillar 941.
5 injured in lathicharge
Rajkot: As many as five students of an engineering college were injured after the local police,on Thursday,cane-charged them for protesting against the institution’s decision to hike fees,the police said.
The incident occurred at Atmiya College when the students started shouting slogans against the authorities,they said.
The police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the mob. Five students were injured in the process.
The wounded were rushed to the civil hospital where they were given first-aid,the police added.
