House on mega fire over Nano nod

Cong says benefits worth R29,000 cr given to Tata,Radia to bring the small car plant to Sanand.

The Opposition Congress on Monday alleged that the state government has extended benefits in excess of R 29,000 crore to the Tata Group and their corporate lobbyist Niira Radia for shifting the Nano car plant to Sanand from Singur in West Bengal.

Former Leader of the Opposition Arjun Modhwadia raised the issue during Question Hour and asked for a probe into the matter by a Joint Assembly Committee. Speaker Ganpat Vasava has deferred the decision on formation of a Joint Assembly Committee.

Agitated members of the Treasury Bench led by Urban Development Minister Nitin Patel refuted the allegations and requested the Speaker to expunge it from the records. The BJP members demanded the Speaker to ask Modhwadia to present evidences in support of the allegations. Patel also raised a point of order on the issue.

Modhwadia said he will present documentary, photographic and video evidence of the relationship between CM Narendra Modi,Niira Radia and Ratan Tata in public shortly.

Patel said the Congress was making “baseless allegations out of frustration”. “If they had such evidences why did they wait for so long and not make it public two years ago when the Nano project came up ?” he said.
