The Gujarat High Court has ordered the Centre to give a Shaurya Chakra and post-martyrdom benefits of a jawan who died in Kashmir last year to his mother.
The martyrs mother had approached the HC with a grievance that a woman had claimed the Shaurya Chakra of her son and subsequent benefits by forging documents to show that she was his widow. The petitioner has demanded the Shaurya Chakra and other benefits back.
The petitioner has been identified as Sushila Yadav. Sushilas son,Arbheram Yadav, died in Kashmir in 2009 following which he was awarded the Shaurya Chakra and other benefits.
Sushila had claimed that one Sadhna had claimed to be Yadavs widow and had taken the Shaurya Chakra and other benefits. In reality,Sadhna was only engaged to her son,Sushila claimed.
Counsel for the Centre,Mehul Vakharia said,Following the petition, the HC had asked the concerned department of the Central Government to review the issue and file an affidavit. Subsequently, the reviewing authority had called the martyrs parents and Sadhna for the hearing.
He added: However,Sadhna did not appear before the reviewing authority and so,it was presumed that she did not have anything to prove that she was the martyrs widow.
Vakharia said,on Monday, the High Court ordered the Centre to give the Shaurya Chakra and other benefits to Sushila Yadav.
