The Gujarat Police have declared a terror alert in the state following Intelligence Bureau (IB) inputs about two foreign nationals believed to have entered Mumbai for a possible terror strike. A day earlier,Union Home Ministry had said more terrorists could have sneaked into other states too to create trouble during the festive season. The two terrorists said to have entered Mumbai are reportedly Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJi) operatives identified as Kalimuddin Khan alias Rameshwar Pandit and Hafeez Sharif from Pakistan and Bangladesh respectively. The Gujarat Police have alerted the state ATS and Crime Branch to keep a particularly strict vigil in Ahmedabad. The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has begun searches at the guest houses,hotels and other areas in the city. DCP (Crime) Himanshu Shukla said the police are checking those staying in guest houses,hotels and lodges for identity proof. Those not found carrying a convincing ID proof would be rounded up, he said. Special patrols have been deployed to keep a watch on Ganesh Pandals and religious monuments across the state. In Ahmedabad,four companies each of Rapid Action Force and State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) have been deployed,with senior officials supervising them. DCP (Control) DH Parmar said,The RAF and SRPF have been called in for the festival on Saturday. Besides,we have asked for more security forces from paramilitary after the alert. About 1300 home guards and quick response teams have also been deployed. In Surat,five SRPF companies and two companies of Border Wing forces have been deployed. Security has been beefed up in Rajkot too.
