A statement said, “Gandhiji showed that change does not always come from force, noise, or numbers — but from perseverance, restraint, and inner strength.”A group of veterans from the armed forces, along with NCC cadets, will walk to Dandi from the Sabarmati Ashram on January 3 to mark the new year and “honour history.”
The walk will cover 25-30 km a day along the entire 387 km route that Gandhi marched in 1930. A statement said, “Gandhiji showed that change does not always come from force, noise, or numbers — but from perseverance, restraint, and inner strength.”
“Walking 25–30 km a day at this stage of life is not about proving endurance; it is about demonstrating that age is not a barrier to purpose or fitness…When younger people see seniors walking with dignity and intent, they see that patriotism, fitness, and commitment do not retire at 60”, it added.
Change of plan
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who inaugurated a Centre of Excellence at the Shrimad Rajchandra Ashram at Dharampur, Valsad on Saturday, was to flag off the ancient sailing vessel, INSV Kaundinya, from Porbandar on Monday along with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The plans had to be changed, however, with Singh heading to the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) meeting that he chaired the same day. Oman’s Ambassador to India, Issa Saleh Abdullah Aishibani, was present as the Guest of Honour at the flag-off ceremony.
